Workshop
Schedule - Spring & Summer 2008 |
A Top Down Sweater That Fits
Instructor: Deb Gemmel
Saturday, May 3 10:00
am - 11:30 am Coffee with Show & Tell (All invited)
12:30 pm - 4:30 pm Workshop Participants Only
$50
Many of you met Deb Gemmell from Cabin Fever when she and Lynda visited the shop two years ago. Their knitting theory is “as little sewing as possible.”
Now, Deb is returning for a coffee with show & tell and an afternoon workshop on “no sew” knitting. We all love to knit, but many of us dread sewing up the finished garment. Knitting a sweater from the collar to the bottom means no seams to sew!
Many of us have knit from the top down but now Deb will help you design a garment that will fit. We will practice putting a V-neck on our garment and learn how to customize the sweater: are the sleeves too wide or narrow, would you like a waist, does it fit both bust and hips, where can you add patterning?
If time allows, Deb will also discuss other no-sew techniques such as knitting in the round from the bottom up and picking up around armholes for sleeves.
Participants will practice these techniques while knitting a teddy bear sweater.
Bring yarn and appropriate size circular needle (any length), blunt sewing-up needle, ring markers, double pointed needles, and a sweater you like the fit of.
Deb and Lynda’s books: “Button Up Your Top Down”, “Top Down for Toddlers”, and Cabin Fever patterns are available at the store and the workshop for purchase and autograph. |
