Annual Spring Yarn Sale

March 20
Kristin Nicholas
author of Kristin Knits and Color by Kristin
will be holding two workshops
$40 each or both for $75

Embellishing Your Creations     9:30-noon
This is open to all knitters and weavers. Do you love making colorful creations but Fair Isle or Intarsia techniques aren't quite your thing? Step into Kristin's world of embellishing garments and home goods with a needle and thread. The easy techniques you will learn will help add personality and panache to all your knitted and woven creations . . . and they are a whole lot of fun, too! You'll learn duplicate stitch, chain stitch, French knots, lazy daisies, spider web, running stitch, and more. Kristin will share her helpful techniques to give your embroidery a professional look. When you're finished, you'll be able to decorate your own knitwear with fantastic flourishes that will make your work sparkle.

Students should bring one 8x8" swatch woven or knitted in worsted weight stockinette stitch. Several colors of smooth worsted weight yarn. Tapestry needle (blunt point). Scissors. Optional: Two-color Fair Isle swatch.

The Edge of Color     1:15-3:45 p.m.
Edge treatments are like the icing on a cake. They can turn a plain old stockinette stitch pullover into one with lots of style. Kristin Nicholas uses odd little edge treatments on almost all her knitwear designs. Spend a few hours with her and you will learn about picot edging, corrugated ribbing, bobbled edges, mitered edges, lacey edges, lumpy edges, ruffles, points, fringed, cabled edges, moss stitched, and sculpted bell edges. Many of the edges will be knit in multiple colors. You'll leave with lots of new ideas to transform plain knits into knits that are out of the ordinary.

Students must bring an 8x8" swatch knit in stockinette stitch using a worsted weight yarn. Bring size 7 double-pointed needles (only 2 are needed, not 4). Scissors. Several colors of solid worsted weight yarn.

Meet and Greet Kristin     12:15 to 1 p.m.     No Charge!
Kristin will be autographing her books. We will have copies on sale at the shop or bring your own!
